UYTT - Upgrade Your Tee Tuesdays

On Tuesdays we upgrade our t-shirts (maybe while enjoying a cheap movie and cheap fried chicken...)

Now, here are some supplies I like using to upgrade my tee. I recommend using these for optimal results, unless you're down to totally winging it, which is totally cool too.

T-Shirt

Kind of a given, but of course you need something to upgrade. I recommend and old one, an event tee, volunteer, freebie or at least cheap tee. Cotton tees are best, polyester maybe (cut it out first and make sure it doesn't run). Please do NOT use silk jersey or rayon, those things will run(away) and be gone after your first snip. Let's not forget we're giving BASICS an upgrade, unless those fancy things aren't enough of an upgrade, then you do you bud ;)

On another note, I wash and re-wear my upgraded tees over and over again. So if used correctly, these babies last a lifetime.

Fabric Scissors

We had a rule in school to have 2 pairs of scissors: fabric and paper. The must never be switched once it's determined or else they won't be sharp no more. Plus fabric scissors cut better, cleaner and faster. You can buy them at your local fabric store ;)

Dissolving Fabric Pen (I think that's what it's called)

Better than using pencil or ink pen. These pens are magic! The purple side writes and the White side erases. Also over time the whole thing fades! If you're not down though pencil is cool ;)

Ruler/ Measuring Tape
If you're giving your tee and upgrade, make it real and measure for pin point accuracy (well kind of but not really). I swear my tee upgrades will be more complicated if you have no ruler though.

Thread and Needle
In case of emergency, fails and happy accident fixes.

THE EXTRAS:

Mini Scissors - for all the fine detailing

Curved grid ruler - helps you draw curves and straight, perpendicular lines

Sewing Machine - keeps seams nice, but once in a while tying it together is cool too.

email or comment on each post if you have any questions, showing your versions is strongly encouraged.

Please note artist is not responsible for any damages from UYTT, methods are applied at your own risk. Results may not turn out exactly as depicted. It is highly recommended that a practice round is done on an old shirt before doing it on your garment of choice. They may vary depending on fabric quality and of course your own happy creative accidents. Happy upgrading :)
