UYTT - OFF SHOULDER WITH FAN STRAPS

For this week’s edition we’re going to hop of the latest trend of the off shoulder top. It’s sexy and allows you to keep a part of your sleeves while you’re still well ventilated for your sweaty workouts.

This is also a good opportunity to use fabric scraps from your previous projects and put them into the straps. If you don't have scraps to use, you can cut off 2" from your body hem.

Measure your neck circumference and take note.

Fold t-shirt in half, flat. Cut off 2” from hem for straps (if needed) or use scraps from other projects.

Draw a straight line squared against CF roughly within 1” from neckline seam (even at neckline seam is fine). Stop line at armhole. Measure from top of armhole to line and note.

Make a mark on sleeve overarm same distance from armhole as above, draw a short line squared. Then draw a smooth curved connecting the sleeve line to body line. Cut along curve.

Fold t-shirt on CF and CB matching armhole seams.

Fold front top edge in half (CF to AH seam). Mark at fold line & unfold. ½” below mark draw a line 1” long.

On back top edge make a mark at ¼” - ½” and a 2nd mark ½” – 1” away. 1st mark should be half of 2nd mark. ½” below marks draw line 1” long.

Cut holes at 1” marks.

At front holes, fold straps in half exactly and pull though hole making a loop. Pull the rest of the strap through the loop. Pull tight to secure.

Front strap finished (above). Repeat on other side.

Cut a rectangle 2” x 1” to wrap around straps. Glue or sew rectangle closed.

Measure from CF point to rectangle wrap. Make sure the rectangle wrap is more than ½ of your neck circumference (for example mine was 13” so anything above 7 ½”). Wrap should be at 3” at most from half of your neck circumference.

Lay t-shirt and straps flat with back body face up. Cut straps at backside (if needed)

Insert straps through hole (from inside shirt to outside). Make sure they’re roughly 1” away from rectangle wrap and the area lays flat. Then loop strap around the hole and pull strap through the loop making a knot.

Once all knots are tied, try on shirt to make sure placement is right. If it’s too high tie the back knots farther away from rectangle wrap. If it’s too low, tie knots closer to rectangle wrap.
Once you’re satisfied, pull back ties to secure knot.

With leftover back strap, cut into fringes (cut in ½ and then ½ again if you want).

Enjoy your top! :)

If you have any questions, let me know. I changed the comments setting so that any of you can comment (please pardon my noobiness). I would love to see your new creations!
