UYTT - TWIST AND LACE UP

Upgrade your tee to look like this. You can even use the front as a back if you wanted to and vise versa,

I hope you enjoy today's edition of UYTT. If you have any questions, you can contact me or comment. Otherwise I'd love to see your creations!

Tune in next Tuesday for another edition :)

Before starting, I highly recommend you click on UYTT first so you're prepared with supplies and the run though. Happy upgrading!

PREP

Lay t-shirt flat and fold in half (this makes both sides accurate and speeds up the process). Cut off sleeves.

Cut shoulder seams along the seam.

Lay t-shirt flat but fold along the center front and center back.

TWIST (BACK)

Prep

Establish your lowest center back point with your marker (I normally like mine pretty low, if you don’t feel the same I suggest you try yours on before prep and mark a “mock” mark).

On the shoulder seam mark 1 ¼” and 1” from the back neck seam

Draw half of a curved “V” shape on CB (make sure your point hits the mark you made on #1. Then draw a smooth curve towards the side hitting the armhole. The narrowest point of your strap should be at the shoulder seam between 1 – 1 ½”

When you’re happy with your curves, cut a long the lines

Assembly

If you would like to follow the front as well, read on to “LACE UP (FRONT)” before proceeding with below.

Unfold CB and lay flat, label L & R on straps with your marker.

Cross strap L over strap R

Cross straps again in the same direction so that L and R return to their original positions, except the straps should be twisted (you can twist as much as you want). When you’re happy with your twist, secure with safety pin.

Attach to front by either sewing or tying straps together.

LACE UP (FRONT)

Prep

With a ruler, draw a triangle to CF fold. Keep it as close to the original neck as possible.

With a ruler draw straight, horizontal line right below CF neck, stop at the triangle line.

Draw (or cut) more horizontal lines below about ½” apart, parallel to the 1st horizontal line you made. Stop your lines at the original triangle line. Cut off neck band area and the mini bottom triangle shape.

From shoulder seam make 4 marks ¾” - 1” apart from triangle edge

On 2nd mark draw a line down the front. The longer the line the lower your keyhole is.

On 1st and 3rd mark, draw a “U” shape towards the bottom on the line you just drew. On the last mark, draw a smooth curve towards the side hitting the armhole.

Cut off “U” shape for your keyholes only, (this should give you 2 straps) and check how this looks with the outside strap overlapping.

If you want more umph (like I did) open and draw a bigger “U”. Make sure the widest part of your straps are at the shoulder seam, modify your side curve if needed.

If you’re happy with your new “U” cut the side portion out.

Assembly

Unfold CF and lay flat. Twist your straps together towards CF individually, then place the outer strap on top of the inner strap (see previous 2 steps). Secure with safety pin.

Attach to back by either sewing or tying straps together

Try on your shirt, I found that my top horizontal strip was coming into my neck too closely. If that’s your case, cut it off. Do this 1 strap at a time because you can’t go back.

Better =) for me, if you want to keep chopping, go for it.
